KENDRA THOMAS

Hometown?  I was raised primarily in Los Angeles.

Favorite music/band? This is an ever evolving answer. My 14 year old self would say the Fugees, TLC, or N'Sync, but these days that changes depending on my mood. I love everything from Beyonce, Kendrick, and Kid Cudi to James Bay, SOHN and Cecile McLorin Salvant.

Dream vacation? I want to travel everywhere. I love adventure and being immersed in different cultures: Bali, Thailand, Greece, Morocco...

Favorite post yoga snack? Usually something light and refreshing like a green juice

A quote you love? There are so many! "The quieter you become the more you are able to hear"

Personal mantra? "Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it." "You are enough."

How did you get into yoga? My interest in yoga began in Los Angeles when I was 11 years old and decided to tag along with my mom to take prenatal yoga classes in the home of Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa. At the time I wasn't sure about yoga and what it all meant, but I was intrigued, and this was just the beginning of my exploration. As an actress and competitive athlete, yoga gave me the time and space to learn to let go and helped me find breath and balance on and off the mat.

Favorite time of day to get your practice in? My yoga practice is very important to me so I will practice just about any time of day. If I had my choice, I'd teach a couple of early morning classes and take an afternoon or early evening class.

Favorite part of y7? I love that the darkness and the flow on your own gives yogis a chance to play and experiment without feeling like they have to worry about what everyone around them is doing, while also finding what works in their bodies. Y7 dares to be different, and in doing so it makes yoga more accessible and less intimidating. We flow to hip hop and music that moves you, which creates a distinct ebb and flow of energy in the room and guides each yogi on their own personal journey so that they leave the studio with that unmistakable blissed out feeling.
